Respite

I sit cross-legged traveling
through the early verse of
William Carlos Williams as
jazz holiday standards play
but this respite
This breathing space
is to be brief
Guests will soon be along
and the room will belong to
loud voices
paper tearing
glasses of cheer
and laughter I don’t
often hear
