One Room, Under God

They were roasting meat
in the Great Hall
beneath colorful banners
festooning the room

I suppose

And the odor warmed
even the cold damp stones
of this dank dungeon

I wish you could
have been here
chained up with me
so you would know
the odor of God’s
presence – that of charred
meat to a barren belly

And to hear the
chalices knocking
together and the
laughing far
above us
Surely the
melodious
tones of
gods and
goddesses
feasting

If only you could
have been here with me

Dangling

Basking under the
fragrant smoke
of heaven

      1. I donโ€™t know about you but I have found so many times where I write something that Iโ€™m actually proud of that isnโ€™t received well and the ones that I can barely stomach seem to get the best response. Iโ€™m obviously doing something wrong ๐Ÿค” haha!

      2. Nope – that’s almost always the way with me! Some absolute shit, (in my mind, anyway), gets tons of comments and my best goes unnoticed. It’s crazy! I wrote this one in ten minutes. All I had to inspire it was “roasted meat.” Poetry is strange ๐Ÿ˜‰
